glazers do it better

i've written a few posts about why i love my great-grandfather, none of which capture it quite as well as this phone exchange i had with him today:

FUDGE: so grampa, you know, i'm going on all these interviews now, because if i don't get a job after graduation i'll have to go back to wisconsin, and you know how my mom feels about that.

GRAMPA: she threatened to charge you rent?

FUDGE: exactly. so they told me i have to buy a matching suit jacket and skirt for this interview, but i went to this store to get a jacket, and the jacket alone costs a fortune! it was like a hundred and fifty dollars!

GRAMPA: yeah, yeah.

FUDGE: so then i called my mother, and i asked her if i should buy it, and she said, 'a hundred and fifty dollars for a suit jacket? what are you, crazy? haven't you got anything else to wear?'

GRAMPA: uh huh, uh huh.

FUDGE: so then i said, 'well, sure, i have this jumper that looks pretty professional, but mom, they told me to wear a matching suit and jacket!' and she said, 'as long as you look professional, you'll be alright.' but grampa, what if i wear the jumper and i don't get the job?

GRAMPA: then your mother will buy you the jacket.

Are there any second hand or consignment stores nearby? Or a Dress For Success chapter? You can often find like-new suits at places like that. Heck I'd send you one of mine but I have a feeling they'd be too huge. Check out JC Penney if there is one around, too, because they often have pretty decent prices. Good luck!

I've found
3-piece matching suits in Filene's Basement for $100 (for the whole thing). Also, business dress with a jacket, in the same place.

Isn't Filene's Basement near Grandma Rose?

I get Filene's coupons from time to time, and since I'm allergic to shopping, I'll save em for you if this is still relevant. I can even stand outside the dressing room, just like a real mommy.

Buy a jacket! Wearing one is considered essential for job interviews, and because it is so considered, not wearing one is tantamount to not being serious in desiring a position.

You all don't get what she is trying to say. Her grandpa is making joke! If she didn't get job because her mom is not letting her to buy suit jacket then it is her fault. So grandpa is making excellent comeback it shows he was listening to her.....
